What connects cinema to public history?
FilmFestival Cottbus has long come to symbolize the link between the cinema cultures of Eastern and Western Europe.
The discussion "(Public) History on Screen: Three Shorts & Three People in Dialogue" brings the great filmmaker from Poland Michał Toczek together with members of the #EUROPAST team, historians dr. Juliane Fürst (Potsdam Center for Contemporary History), dr. Dora Komnenovic (Potsdam Center for Contemporary History) and political scientist dr. Gintas Karalius (Vilnius University, TSPMI).
Topics for discussion: Are films an appropriate tool for historical education? How to evaluate the heroization of historical figures in film stories?
